Getting Close to going Live

Here I am playing on my new computer. Should be out working on some vehicles or equipment, but there is rain coming in, the weather forecast keeps backing it up, but hate to get out and start an oil change and have it come a flood on me and this needs to be done as well.

Trying to get the security going on this thing, and find where my stuff is, or where I want to put it. I just got this thing from Amazon for $450 it is a Lenovo T460 refurb. Hopefully it works out to be a good one. My old Toshiba is over 12 years old I think and is a bit long in the tooth for the computer world.

Matthias is picking a plug in to load so that I can start doing “podcasts” and will put in the plug in for me here. I think that is going to be the best way for me to communicate, a combination of a podcast and some still pictures. I may start to add some video at some point, but right now, I think that that I will have a hard enough time keeping up until I find a rhythm and a better understanding of what is going on. I think I will be able to communicate my thoughts well enough while hopefully keeping it both entertaining and informative that people will have an interest.

So here we go on a grand adventure.

Equipment on the homestead

So, on our homestead I am a bit of a tool junkie,,,,,, and we have some equipment. We also have a landscaping business so we have some equipment to support that as well. I also happen to call my equipment by weird names, think The Mason Williams Phonograph Album, kings panties….

So I will go through and introduce you to some of the equipment and if you have any questions on the why or why not something else, please ask.

So this is TAK or TAK TAK. She is Hanna’s Takeuchi TL140 Compact Track Loader. She is about an 80 horse machine and weighs about 10k lbs. She is used extensively in the landscaping business as well as all around the homestead. She can lift and work with about 3000 lbs and can probably lift about 4000 lbs carefully.

She is showing here sporting her large tooth bucket and she has a variety of attachments that go on her quick attach front end. We have a variety of buckets and tools that go on there, and there are always more that we have not bought yet.

I am constantly on the lookout for new and used attachments that will make our work easier and I am sure I will be posting about our desires and upcoming purchases, and the ongoing maintenance that is required when operating this type of equipment.

Getting it going

Still working on getting this thing up and going……. Man, this stuff is not my thing but I am really hoping that I can work through the bugs here and learn to do it.

I think I am danger close to getting the website turned on, so all this is not just written to myself, but we will see. I struggle to do the simple and repetitive tasks that I have already done in the past, but I think as I practice more, it will become easier.

Currently I cannot even find the place to add the picture in the column here, and I was doing it yesterday! Patience and just perseverance and I will get there though. I can always spend my time loading up pictures on to the picture bank so I have something to work against.

With luck, this evening we will try my first podcast and maybe a video and see how that all works, or maybe I need to fumble around in Facebook and make that work better and get more content going over there. Certainly there is a pretty steep learning curve going on at the minute, which I hope improves after a bit.

Trying to come alive digitally

Good morning folks, here we sit with the cup of coffee talking with the BIL over NextCloud, trying to make good decisions on what to put here and what to not. While doing this it is tough to balance out how much information to try and hold back and how much to just put out there easily accessible. Things like my street address and such. While I want to keep some things private, I also realize that 5 minutes on google can bring most people to a lot of information. Decisions, decisions, it is all a part of life.

Missed a good deal on a Gravely walk behind mower yesterday, did not get on it fast enough. One of the newer ones, electric start, dual wheels, double deck, sulke with it for $300 in good working order…. Dangit man, sometimes I just come up a day late and a dollar short. Perseverance pays though, we just keep plugging along.

Trying to make a decision on a new laptop to help support this idea I have here to establish more of a web presence. My SIL suggested a Lenovo out of the Amazon Refurb line and I am hung for a minute on whether to spend an extra $17 on the one on prime, or save $17 potentially wait another week and get the prime one…… Going to make that decision today.

Did establish a new Gmail account of alwayssomethingonthehomestead@gmail.com

Did get a Facebook page established at Always Something On The Homestead

BIL hooked me up on my email at this website

that I wont post here because I will get spammed, so I have to figure out how to do that, but that will come in time. so that is cool!

Time to get moving forward, make some decisions and get things going

Computers getting started

Hi folks, today we are trying to sort through the adventures of getting this website up and running, get the bare minimum of content established on the site, get some general direction going on the site and hopefully establish some related pages on Facebook, MeWe and such to get this adventure underway.
